MISTER FOE – Reviewed by Noah
It’s indie, it’s dark, it’s Scottish. Mister Foe is everything you’ve been looking for. It seems a bit much, but allow me to explain.
Jamie Bell plays Hallam Foe, the disillusioned son of a well-to-do architect. When he’s not trying to find evidence that his stepmother, played by Claire Forlani, killed his mother, he’s peeping on the residents of the local village. When bad timing and blackmail force him to move to Edinburgh, Hallam finds a new job and a new object of his attentions in the form of hotel HR manager Kate Breck, played by Sophia Myles. You might remember Sophia from her role in Art School Confidential; however, if you’re not one of the six people who saw that movie, she’s someone to watch.
There are parts of Mister Foe that make you laugh, some that might make you cry, some that make you say “is that a badger?”. It’s a well acted character drama about a boy coming into his own, dealing with poor parenting and the cruel realities of the world. A definite must for fans of Igby Goes Down. Or, you could see it just because I said so.
