QUANTUM OF SOLACE – Reviewed by Noah
I was excited when Quantum of Solace hit theaters. Casino Royale was awesome, and the first Bond film I’d liked in a good long while (why have you forsaken me Timothy Dalton?).And it came out and people were all like “This ain’t good.” and I was all like “really” and they were like “For real.” Needless to say I listened to all of these people, and did not see the film. Until now.
Quantum of Solace stars Daniel Craig, reprising his role as British super spy James Bond, hot on the trail of the group that killed the woman he loved. Back from Casino Royale is Dame Judi Dench as “M,” and Jeffrey Wright as CIA agent Felix Leiter.
Bond’s search for justice leads him to both super-villain Dominic Greene (The Diving Bell and the Butterfly’s Matthieu Almaric) and damsels in distress Camille (Olga Kurylenko) and Strawberry Fields (Gemma Arterton). What I’m trying to say is that there are actors in this movie. Who cares, what about the action?
There are car chases, foot chases, and roof to roof foreign intrigue á la To Catch a Thief. People get shot, things explode–it’s a great action movie, with an interesting plot to connect all the carnage.
I liked it, is what I’m trying to say. And had I listened to all the ”haters,” I would have skipped it. I would have missed another film I thought would be good, because I listened to the negative-nelly that reviews movies. This I can say without a doubt. Don’t listen to the “haters,” because haters are just people, and people are often dumb.
Quantum of Solace is a solid, well-shot film that is exciting. The past year has been filled with really well done, horribly depressing films. Here’s one that’s decent, interesting, and probably won’t make you feel like your dog died. - [DVD]
