Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse is about some off-brand Boy Scouts fighting legions of the undead. It is not tastefully done. It is violent, and exceptionally crass.
It’s also pretty fun, if you’re okay with all the other stuff.
I just wrote a plot description, and then deleted it. At no point will the “story” be what draws anyone in. If you’re not sold by the title alone, you should stop reading; it’s not going to get any better for you.
If you’re continuing on this little journey, here’s the straight dope on this zombie jamboree:
Scouts Guide stars Tye Sheridan (Mud, Joe) and really very few other people. There are some C level cameos and bit parts (Cloris Leachman, David Koechner, Patrick “the legitimate son” Schwarzenegger). Mostly it’s about three teens camping, then killing zombies, in precisely that order. Along the way they meet up with a shotgun-wielding stripper, and attempt to always “be prepared”.
That was my one scouting joke; if I could come up with a kerchief joke, believe me I’d use it.
There’s a bunch of cursing, a whole lot of sex stuff, and many, many onscreen deaths. There’s also quite a few laughs, and some decent gore. If you like chuckling at zombies, check this one out, but don’t watch it with your Nana. – [DVD] [Blu-Ray]
